A Music Career in Review

6 minutes of the story of my music career!

In recent weeks I’ve been doing a lot of digital clean up, digging out old hard drives and master CDs and career clippings. Wow have I been a hoarder and archivist! Not always super organised, but most everything I ever made is still on hard drives in my possession (and backed up to the cloud, fear not). Found so many amazing things, memories, old friends. Lots of those have been shared to my Instagram as reels (@jamesalexander_live). It’s been a time of great integration and reconnection for me, and it’s been a really heart-warming journey down memory lane piecing this story of my career together.

The best is certainly yet to come, but for now, here is a brief summary of the things I’ve been up to musically for the last 25 years. Now that I have finished publishing my first novel The Ghost of Emily here as a weekly episodic series, I’m taking a few weeks to focus my energies on this website on my music.

First it was this video, next I’ll be building my EPK (that’s Electronic Press Kit for people not in the business) here on this site, so that agents, venues, and other industry bods can easily access my current bio, photos, and promo like this short documentary and my best performance highlights.

After that, I’m planning to gradually “re-release” my entire back catalog here on Substack, linking in with my BandCamp which hosts all of my original music released to date.

But what is FORWARD is most exciting of all! The band is sounding HOT and we rehearse again in the week ahead. The songs fuse their way deeper and deeper into my body as I listen, practise, rehearse and perform them. SOLSTICE is surely going to be my most mature and refined work as a musician, and it will be my first release under my newer (and truer) stage name JAMES ALEXANDER.

Enjoy my journey past, and don’t be a stranger as you follow me on the journey forward towards SOLSTICE!
